My name is Blair Counihan. I have been a volunteer at Quantum House for one year. Every Monday, I spend two hours with the kids in residence and I bring a different craft or activity. I usually have an idea of what families are staying at Quantum House and try to bring activities that will appeal to a range of ages and abilities. In the year that I have been a volunteer I have made so many lasting relationships with the kids and their families. Getting texts, calls and FaceTimes from the kids is exciting and it is so rewarding to be able to keep in touch with so many families. It’s is very common for families to return to the area for treatment on a yearly basis.
This summer I have reunited with a few families I met last year. This is just another reason my work at Quantum House is so meaningful. Prior to volunteering, I knew that Quantum House existed, but I had no idea the impact it had on the families who are able to stay there while receiving medical care. Seeing all of the dedication behind the scenes, from meals, activities, both inside and outside of the house and the special bond that the families have with one another makes me so proud to be a part of this amazing organization. IT is hard to put into words just what it means to be able to spend time with the kids at Quantum House each week. I believe I get as much out of my time there as the kids do. It truly is the best part of my week!
